Firing Pottery Embellishments
Tag alongs, add-ons or embellishments can be attached to flat bisque items as an additional form of decoration. This method is ideal for flat items like bowls and plates.
-
Decorate and clear glaze both the main item (e.g. the plate in the example image above) and the embellishment (e.g. the starts in the example image above). Remember to work out where you are placing the bisque prior to clear glazing.
-
Once dry, simply place the tag along onto the receiving, flat item.
-
Place the item gently in the kiln and fire both pieces.
-
The items will "fuse" together during the firing process.
NB: Care needs to be taken that the tag along is placed in exactly the correct position because it cannot be removed after firing. Remember that embellishments may move if the item is not completely flat e.g. if any part of the main item has a slight angle, the tag along will move during the firing process.
